Adapt with purpose

Use these questions to prepare an adaptation for review with partners and the relevant technical lead.

1. Name the need

What makes the current material hard to use? Ask intended users about language, examples, format, access and delivery conditions.

Barrier and whose experience it reflects

2. Keep the purpose

What must learners be able to do? Which activities make that possible? Check the programme’s actual adaptation and approval requirements.

Objective and elements to retain or review

3. Co-design a small test

Build a usable prototype with partners. Include varied intended users. Ask them to do the task; observe where they need help.

Proposed change and pilot participants

4. Review and improve

Compare observed performance with the objective. Explore the reasons for gaps. Revise, retest and document the decision together.

Evidence needed before wider use
